“Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.”
Am I the only one who finds it interesting that someone would say success is simple? If it was so simple why do so many of us fall short of our desired success? The answer to that question is unique to each and every one of us. Your success is determined by the actions that you decide to take. That is where the simplicity lies. If we take responsibility for our success then we will take responsibility for our actions. If you take the right actions necessary to achieve your desired goals you will eventually achieve whatever you desire. Simply put if we do what’s right we will be successful.
In order to do what’s right you have to know what is right. That doesn’t sound simple but in reality it is. However, just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it won’t take work. It may take years of research. It may take hours of studying. It may take weeks of preparation. No matter what it takes you have the ability to define it for your success. The resources you need are available to you at any point you decided to lean on them. Your action is to learn what is right through study and then define it so that it is never in question.
Doing things the right way takes commitment to sticking to your values. It goes without saying that those values need to be good values. True success cannot come from a bad place. Probably the most important value to have is integrity. By having integrity you can always be assured that whatever actions you take will not come back to haunt you. You can be trust and assured that no matter the outcome of the actual action your intentions were born from a good place. Following that path will eventually lead to success.
After doing what’s right, in the right way you must now do it in at the right time. Yes it is true, timing is everything. It is also true that the only time that truly matters is right now. In order to achieve success you must take action right now. This does not mean you have to take out a $100,000 loan today and start a business you know nothing about. What it does mean is you should carefully decide on the actions you take now no matter how big or small. In most cases those actions will be small. Those small actions will build over time and create momentum for that large action that will catapult you to your success.
Now that you have been reminded of the simple formula to success (Do what’s right, in the right way at the right time) it’s time for you to take action.
Define what is right
Define what success means to you. It is highly recommend to define success in all 6 wellbeing dimensions as defined by the National Wellness Institute (emotional, occupational, physical, social, intellectual, spiritual)
Build a plan on how to achieve that defined level of success. Include the actions you plan to take daily and your goals for 90 days, 6 months and 1 year.
Follow the plan
Do it the right way
Do everything with integrity
Do it at the right time
Take some action now
An example of a small effective action is to schedule time on your calendar (Outlook, Google, etc) to work on your action plans for each of the 6 wellness dimensions
Success is an often elusive reward we all work diligently to capture. No matter how you define success there are certain actions you must take in order to achieve it. The blueprints of those exact actions are not available to follow because everyone’s journey to success will be unique. That uniqueness can often make your journey to success seem very complex. Often lost in all that complexity is a simple formula to success, you must do what’s right, the right way, at the right time. Never lose sight of that simplicity. As always I remind you to enjoy the journey.
Have a great week,
